About Us

We are a small, 60 acre family farm run by Chris & Sally with the help of our four sons. Our farm is situated in the bucolic rolling hills and mixed forests of the Virginia Piedmont where we are fortunate to share our home with a variety of plants and wildlife.

Principles

Rotational grazing is the keystone of our farming practices.  Animals are regularly (usually daily) moved to fresh pastures within which they are able to roam and select from a buffet of natural grasses, legumes, and forbs.  These frequent moves to clean pasture ensure that animals enjoy utmost health and happiness without the use of chemical inputs, which then translates to the healthiest possible meats for you, your friends, and family.

Our cattle are 100% pastured and grass finished.  Weaned calves come from local farms and spend the rest of their lives grazing under the sky.  Using mobile fencing, cattle are rotated frequently to fresh pastures, usually daily, sometimes twice a day. During winter and dry spells, we supplement with non-sprayed, local hay (dried grass).  We do not feed grain, nor do we use hormones, mRNA, antibiotics, or chemical dewormers.

Practices

Clean

We only raise what we ourselves will eat. We don’t want to consume GMOs, pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, mRNA, hormones, or chemical wormers and know you don’t want to either.

Ecological

Our farm doesn’t exist in a vacuum. What we do impacts all the life around us, as well as soil and water. As such, we work to build soil, reduce erosion and runoff, encourage species diversity, and provide habitat for the plants and animals that make the farm their home.

Humane

Animal quality of life is at the forefront of our minds and central to all management decisions. It’s essential that animals are treated with care and  respect in accordance with their nature. This is not only a moral stance. Healthy, happy animals = quality, nutrient dense food for you.
